Broadway Malyan Marks 30 Years in Lisbon Studio
2nd October 2025

Broadway Malyan is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Lisbon studio, the practice’s first international office and the foundation for a global network that now spans locations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.

Since opening its doors in 1995, the Lisbon studio has established itself as one of the country’s leading design practices, delivering an extensive portfolio of award-winning commercial, residential and hospitality schemes.

In recent years, the team has played an important role in the regeneration of key districts in both Lisbon and Porto, with landmark projects including World of Wine in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto Office Park in the city’s emerging business district, the AURA and ECHO buildings within the EXEO Office Campus and Moxy Hotel Oriente in Lisbon’s Parque das Nações and celebrated residential developments Garridas 1867 and Fábrica 1921 in Benfica.

The studio, led by Margarida Caldeira, Broadway Malyan’s Global Head of Hospitality, has deep expertise in hospitality design, with the team collaborating with many of the world’s leading brands and operators, delivering projects across Europe and the Middle East. Projects include repositioning and new build developments as well as branded residences, increasingly one of the most dynamic new frontiers in hospitality design.

Margarida’s leadership in the Portuguese built environment has also been recognised more widely through her election as Chair of the Urban Land Institute Portugal and as a board member of Women in Real Estate (WIRE).

The studio has also continued to grow its presence in Brazil, continuing to deliver successful projects across numerous sectors and is currently involved in a variety of large-scale projects, including a major new mixed-use neighbourhood in Campinas for Iguatemi.

Margarida said, “Reaching this milestone is a moment of real pride for our Lisbon team. Over three decades, we have grown from a small studio into one of the most respected practices in Portugal, shaping projects that have helped redefine city districts and build communities.

“What makes this anniversary special is the contribution of so many talented colleagues and collaborators whose creativity and passion continue to drive our success both here and internationally.”

Stuart Rough, Broadway Malyan’s global head of architecture, added: “Lisbon was the beginning of Broadway Malyan’s journey as an international practice, and 30 years on, it remains a beacon of design quality and ambition.

“The studio’s success is rooted in long-standing client relationships, a deep understanding of place and a commitment to innovation - qualities that will continue to shape our work for decades to come.”
