The building footprint is broken down to give the impression of separate houses and provide a residential scale to the development. Various pushing and pulling of the mass gives relief on the facades and further emphasises this design approach. As a result, the proposed building footprint fits comfortably into the surrounding context.
More specifically the accommodation to Marston Road has been set back and aligned to the existing street frontages to respect the established residential street scene. From Jack Straw’s Lane the accommodation is set well back in to the site to create the tree-lined processional route that is integral to the landscape design and to accommodate the operational requirements for parking.
