New Masterplanning lecture with Broadway Malyan at the UDG, 16th February 2011 / by rachel

UDG Event - NEW MasterplanningWednesday 16th February, The Gallery, 70 Cowcross Street, London, EC1M 6EJ Reception from 6:15pm; speakers at 6:45pm (doors open 6pm)

An overview of current thinking in masterplanning, both in Britain and further afield, with speakers from NEW Masterplanning and Broadway Malyan.

NEW Masterplanning will consider two mixed-use, but housing-led, schemes - a high density proposal in Gloucester city centre and a lower density proposal on the edge of Swindon. Both are designed to meet the wider social and economic regeneration objectives for the towns.

The presentation will outline how the schemes seek, in different ways, to change perceptions of living in the towns, to deliver a different product from the current housing market and to create genuine communities.

Broadway Malyan will also compare approaches so masterplanning and urban design in different contexts.  Examples from practice in the UK, where the growth of urban extension is relatively small-scale, based on a detailed contextual analysis of local settlement patterns and the localism agenda, will be contrasted with the Middle East where the scale of planned growth is much larger and other contextual factors dramatically different.

NEW Masterplanning & Broadway Malyan are also kindly sponsoring a reception before the event with wine and nibbles from 6:15pm, including cake to celebrate the 5th birthday of NEW Masterplanning.

No advance booking required.  Just come along and pay on the door.
