Work set to start on green office project in Porto
17th February 2022

Work is set to begin later this year on a second landmark office scheme in Porto designed by Broadway Malyan.

The new office building is located in the heart of the Porto’s emerging Business Zone and follows the recent completion of the nearby Porto Office Park, which was also designed by Broadway Malyan and was voted the best new office in several awards in Portugal.

The new 19,000sqm project, which is being funded in a joint venture between Sonae Sierra and Ferreira Group, includes an nine-storey office building linked to a second smaller building with two restaurants and a health club, wrapped around a new internal garden that will be open for public use.

Designed with users’ wellbeing in mind, the internal garden is part of more than a hectare of green space and landscaped walkways around the scheme while internally, each of the office floors is served by double height green terraces.

On the upper floor, a rooftop amenity space offers wider views across the city of Porto, providing an outdoor space for people to meet and relax.

The office design is also highly sustainable with a rainwater reuse system, photovoltaic panels, LED lights throughout, electric car charging stations and bicycle parking with changing facilities, with the aspiration to achieve a high standard LEED certification.

The buildings have also been designed with a highly efficient façade with a combination of GRC panels and bronze vertical fins, controlling the natural daylight into the offices and reducing the levels of internal energy consumption.

The interior spaces have the same elegance and scale of the facades with a double height reception space punctuated with bronze fins and white walls while pots of trees link the internal spaces with the public park.

Associate Director Joao Monteiro, from Broadway Malyan, said: “Porto is an incredibly dynamic city enjoying a major economic resurgence and this project is the latest phase of an exciting regeneration of the ZEP business district in the city.

“The aim is to create an office building that looks beyond the ordinary, incorporating biophilic design and prioritising a connection with nature that will create a modern and flexible workplace environment that supports the health, happiness and comfort of its users.”
