Work completes on first phase of landmark Lisbon residential scheme
16th May 2023

The first phase of a stunning residential scheme on the site of a former textile factory in the Benfica district of Lisbon has been completed.

The new condominium, which retains part of the beautiful Art Deco façade of the former Fábrica de Têxteis Simões & Cª Lda factory, features 162 one to four-bedroomed apartments integrated within more than 4,000sqm of social, leisure and well-being areas.

The scheme consists of a series of residential blocks around the perimeter of the site with an additional building in the centre of the scheme, each sharing the same architectural language in terms of form and lines with seemingly irregular patterns that create a symmetrical rhythm when looking at the development as a whole.

Individual cells are set horizontally and vertically throughout the main residential blocks to create a memorable structural framework while the scheme is broken up by a different building on the corner of the site with reinforced concrete extruded frames that create a series of single and double height frames, allowing for spacious balconies and verandas and contributing further interest in the street scene.

The building inside responds to the surrounding blocks but has a more playful atmosphere with an exterior of handmade Portuguese green tiles and stand out interiors with grey, black and wood finishes.

Each apartment in the development features a balcony or veranda with top floor apartments benefitting from shaded private roof terraces with integrated barbecue pits while each ground level apartment has its own private garden.

The development also has a range of amenities for residents including electric car charging points, landscaped gardens, a children’s play area, a shared rooftop pool, gym and lounge that offers sweeping views across the nearby Monsanto forest park.

Construction work is now underway on the second phase of the scheme, which will include a further 82 apartments.
