New student living building submitted for planning
23rd February 2023

Plans have been submitted for a new landmark student living building in Salford.

The 27-storey tower, which has been designed by Broadway Malyan on behalf of Q Developments, will provide 538 student beds alongside a variety of high-quality amenities for residents.

The scheme also includes a new public realm for students and local community use, providing a green oasis that will support the health and wellbeing of residents while enhancing the gateway experience of the new development.

Andrew Goldthorpe, Associate Director at Broadway Malyan, said: “This key site in Salford will be transformed with the addition of new homes for students and high-quality public realm, acting as a catalyst for further investment in the Crescent Transport Hub Zone.

“Its location, close to the university campus and public transport, means the project can promote new connections for all, improving the public’s experience of this part of the city.”

Ivor Phillips, Director of Architecture, added: “Our proposals are centred around creating a fantastic experience for students and enhancing the streetscape of Cross Lane. The simple 'gridded' facade design is deliberately restrained, taking account of local heritage areas and assets in providing a contrasting design response.

“A hierarchy of groupings and definition of the shoulder block against the main body of the building add to the considered massing approach and limited palette of carefully selected materials.”
