Moxy Lisboa Oriente

A new landmark hotel aimed at the thriving millennial market

Broadway Malyan provided both architectural and interior design services for the 15-storey hotel project, located in the popular Parque das Nações district. The hotel offers views across the river and the iconic Vasco da Gama Bridge. Opened in 2021, Moxy is an emerging Marriott brand aimed at the Millennial generation.

In keeping with the brand’s ethos and aspirations, the hotel's design focused on creating the best possible guest experience, with particular emphasis on the lobby area, intended to be the beating heart of the hotel.

The double-height ground-floor space sits below a semi-open car park that acts as a buffer between the lobby and the elevated guest rooms, ensuring each room enjoys views over the river, while also allowing the lobby to function as a leisure and entertainment space without impacting the guest room experience.

The podium of the hotel is wrapped in a façade of vertical columns that screen and shade both the lobby and car park, while also projecting constantly shifting linear shadows that animate the space as the sun moves around the building.

The overall interior design approach was to create a space that is playful and surprising, with an aesthetic of modern industrial chic.

The lobby features a series of distinct areas, each with different functions, yet all are integrated through a shared design approach.

As guests enter the lobby, they are greeted by a U-shaped bar with striking contemporary tiles reflecting the Portuguese tradition, which doubles as a front desk where they can collect their keys and have a drink after a long journey and relax in the sofas or hanging chairs around a feature island fireplace.

In the heart of the lobby is the food and drink area with a range of high tables and sculptured wooden tables and an F&B wall with different food stations where guests can source and prepare a range of different food options.

Key decorative features throughout the lobby will be decorative tiles with contemporary designs that reference traditional Portuguese patterns and major pieces of street art covering the large interior walls, which will be created on-site by local artists.

Overlooking the lobby is a mezzanine with multi-space rooms, including a gym and a plug-in space, a meeting place where guests can work, meet or chat on communal tables or the mix of comfortable sofas and chairs.
