Inspired by the forests of Asturias

Broadway Malyan was commissioned to completely refurbish and redesign a flagship shopping centre in northern Spain.

The completed first phase included the creation of two new feature entrances and a striking new façade inspired by the movement and shape of the branches and leaves in the nearby woods of Asturias.

The intervention also included an extension of the external terraces including a new walkway to the neighbouring IKEA superstore and a complete redesign of the lower mall to generate 16 new retail units and a new internal plaza.

The second phase of the project will include the refurbishment and extension of the centre’s existing food court.

The design has been inspired on nature’s fractals, organic shapes that evolve into a mathematical element. A walk inside the forest of Asturias with the movement and shape of the branches and leaves is the most powerful inspiration for this project.
