Great design should have a strong narrative. Something to excite, inspire and engage with the people who will be the end users. This section highlights some of our projects that we feel have an interesting story behind, whether it is to do with the original big idea, our process or the final result.

To celebrate its 60th anniversary Broadway Malyan has set staff a challenge; to collectively walk 50m steps and raise money for charity in the process.

The challenge is based on the “step distance” between the firm’s Manchester office and Shanghai office, taking in all 13 of the practice’s studios from West to East and back again.

Fundraising and events will take place over two weeks in September, with every staff member encouraged to participate. This will vary from simply tracking individual’s normal, daily steps, to organised events on a studio by studio basis. This includes architectural tours, sports days, dancing competitions and team events.

There will be a global charity day on the last day of the challenge, with focused activity in every studio to encourage one last push to reach the target.
