The $100 million Centuria Medical Makati in the business district of Makati City in the Philippines, designed by global architecture, urbanism and design practice Broadway Malyan, has been completed and is in its soft opening phase ahead of its formal opening later this year.
The world-class medical centre, developed by Philippine real estate developer, Century Properties, will provide leading-edge services for patients and is expected to attract the best medical practitioners. It is designed to serve both local residents and the increasing number of people travelling to access the very best in healthcare.
From the project’s launch in 2010, Broadway Malyan has provided architectural and landscape services from concept to design – using the latest expertise in healthcare design to create a space that offers an outstanding treatment environment, including a day surgery centre, urgent care clinic, executive screening centre, and a radiology and laboratory centre. There will also be a breast centre, reproductive health and fertility centre, wellness and anti-aging centre, and an eye and laser centre opening soon, as well as a pharmacy and an ambulance transfer service.
As well as offering world-class medical facilities, the building includes medical concierge services, cafes, restaurants and guest suites – all specifically designed to make patients as comfortable as possible.
Century also partnered with GE Healthcare to undertake the infrastructure design of some of Centuria’s support facilities, such as the Day Surgery Centre.
Ian Simpson, Director at Broadway Malyan, said:
“Our work on Centuria Medical Makati adds to Broadway Malyan’s strong track record of medical centre design – and sits alongside successful projects such as National Heart Centre, National University Hospital and Health City Novena.
“Intelligent and effective design contributes to the physical and mental well-being of patients. This is why with the Centuria Medical Centre we thought beyond the traditional functions of a hospital, to create a holistic, attractive and strong-performing space to help aid patient recovery and cater for their every need.
“From concept through to design, our central idea was to create a building and network of linked spaces that maximise healthcare performance – combining good design and the best in modern medicine.
“With the healthcare industry growing rapidly in the Philippines – Centuria Medical Makati sets the standard for modern medical healthcare facilities and will attract patients from across the region and globally.
Centuria Medical Centre is also designed to be environmentally responsive – using deep-set windows to limit glare from the low angle of the sun and, on the north and south-facing façades, dynamic floor ledges shelters the air conditioning units – limiting the building’s environmental footprint.
The new medical centre forms part of the pioneering 8.4 acre mixed-use Century City development, which includes the Broadway Malyan-designed luxury residential Trump Tower, Milano Residences and the recently completed Century City Mall.
Centuria Medical Makati will employ more than 600 doctors with a diverse range of medical expertise
