Breathing new life into Spanish shopping centre

Broadway Malyan was commissioned by Eurofund and patron Capital after they acquired the Odeón shopping centre in Narón in 2015 to transform the internal areas as well as the external facades.

The brief from the client was to renovate the interior space to attract younger customers, but also to develop a new external identity that aligned the centre closer to the city.

To achieve this, a logo with circles evoking the name of Odeón was created, which plays joyfully throughout the shopping centre façades. This architectural element, along with a lighting strategy that changes at different moments of the day, and wider entrances to the building, help to shorten the distance between the shopping centre and its surroundings.

New landscaping, reorganization of the car park and the installation of a pivoting café complete the refurbishment works in the external areas.

The interior works included a range of initiatives to create larger units for bigger brands as well as a total re-imagination of the public areas in the two main hubs of the mall.

In Plaza de Eventos a bamboo forest has been installed, as well as a neutral colour palette to enhance the shop fronts while in the Plaza or Rotonda Central, numerous visual obstacles were eliminated to make the cinema and food court more accessible.

“By merging architecture, interior design, lighting and branding, we have converted the “O” of Odeón into a powerful pattern to dress the building, and to generate a spectacular show of light and colour”
Jorge Ponce, Director, Broadway Malyan
