Great design should have a strong narrative. Something to excite, inspire and engage with the people who will be the end users. This section highlights some of our projects that we feel have an interesting story behind, whether it is to do with the original big idea, our process or the final result.

National University Hospital
Singapore
Flexible and adaptable healthcare environment
Broadway Malyan designed a wayfinding and signage system, for Singapore’s National University Hospital as part of a multi-million dollar remodeling program. The remodelling was part of a phased roll out program and the following factors were considered; integration with existing signage, ensuring that the majority of the hospital remained operational throughout the changes and delivery of an appropriate design for a multi-lingual audience.
A successful design was achieved by introducing a modular system which allowed flexibility throughout the phases whilst maintaining visual continuity with existing signage. The strategic use of multi-lingual signage at key decision points and the utilization of universal pictograms in the directional signs, ensured clarity of message and aided in the flow of patient, staff and visitor journeys. The colour coding of clinical departments was reflected in the signage as well as the interior design to reassure patients.
