Innovative car-free housing development

Coombe Road is a new residential development offering 26 one-three bedroom apartments conveniently located close to New Malden station on the site of a former petrol station.

Using stock brick and generous recessed windows with large balconies, the building is an elegant insertion into New Malden’s main high street.

With the 17.5 metre telephone exchange building immediately to its north and a three storey apartment building to the south the building’s massing has been stepped, rising from three to five storeys. This not only creates a transition between the two buildings but also allows generous roof-terraces for the apartments. The street frontage steps back allowing front gardens for the ground floor apartments.

Discouraging car-ownership was a key part of the scheme and a Zip-car space is included in the parking garage. Bike parking for all apartments is also provided, while proximity to the station further discourages car usage.
