Henrique's submission was selected from 19 entries from across the practice by a judging panel that included group chairman Stuart Rough, directors Jeremy Salmon and Stephen McGrath, director of transportation at Cundall Ian McAlpine and Paul Hanegraaf, creative navigator at Milligan Retail.
This year's theme This year’s theme was ‘Pit Stop’ and an exploration of new architectures and place-making generated from evolving modes of transport and transport hubs and Henrique's entry imagined Manhattan's last remaining service station, inspired by oasis along the Silk Road.
Stuart said: "The overall quality of submissions really was superb and really reinforced what an incredibly talented cohort of young designers we have coming through at Broadway Malyan.
"The detail, depth and clarity of the narrative in Henrique's submission was very impressive and this, combined with its real-life potential, made Henrique a very worthy winner of this year's John Malyan Award."
