Back in Asia
8th December 2017

Ben Somner has rejoined the team in APAC after two years back in the UK.

During his previous time in Asia, Ben was based in our Shanghai studio. He worked in the education sector, delivering a range of international and Chinese schools throughout the country, and also within the workplace and mixed use sectors, with a particular emphasis on public buildings.

After five years he moved back to the UK to support growth in the education sector before deciding he wanted to head back to Asia.

Ben said: “I really missed working in Asia, particularly the diversity of the market, the scope for innovation and taking new approaches to projects, and the scale of new development.

“An opportunity came up to join the Singapore studio and help them to continue to build on some fantastic work in the education sector, with projects such as Nexus International School challenging the standard of educational spaces, and support opportunities in growing markets across the wider APAC region including Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia."

Commenting on the move, Ian Simpson, APAC chairman, added: "It's fantastic to have Ben back with us in the region. He was a wealth of experience across a number of our key sectors and has designed award-winning projects around the world.

"As well as contributing his knowledge of the education sector, he will also work in the health and workplace sectors, which are both very important to the studio.”

Ben joined Broadway Malyan in 2001 as a graduate architect and was appointed Director of Architecture in 2015.
