Suntower

background and brief
The Suntower scheme was conceived as a simple approach to the challenge of providing high density affordable homes in urban areas. Designed to suit possible locations in the UK, 30% of the 146 planned units are reserved for occupation by key workers.

The Suntower model was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art' as part of the 2003 'Sky High: Vertical Architecture’ exhibit exploring the development of the skyscraper.

design response
Passive techniques of cooling and ventilation are used throughout and the units are carefully oriented to benefit from passive solar gain where appropriate. The radial, flower-like geometry that results from these considerations lends the project its name.
