BP, Sunbury
design response
The overriding philosophy of the design has been to use the minimum materials to do the maximum job, creating rational and intelligent buildings. The design surpasses BP's global emissions standards and is rated by BREEAM as 'excellent', reducing occupational carbon dioxide emissions by 60%. Photovoltaics are used to serve several purposes - shading rooflight windows from solar penetration, converting light to electricity and powering the ground water pumps that cool the air supply to the occupied space.
