Broadway Malyan was asked to submit design proposals for a new commercial development, located within Liverpool's World Heritage site. As the scheme was situated in a sensitive area, certain characteristics had to be respected and retained, such as the scale of the buildings and the nature of the streets. The design concept was to create two adjacent towers with a 'cleft' in between, generating the visual symbol of a gateway. Not only does this gateway act as an access route into the development, but also as a threshold between the city's live / work district and new commercial quarter.
Designed to BCO standards and a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating, the office building benefits from floor to floor glazing with tapered floor plates allowing natural lighting to penetrate deeper in to the plan. The requirement for artificial lighting has been further reduced at roof level with rooflights, allowing natural light to filter down to the upper floors.
