Broadway Malyan was instructed by Linden Homes and the Police Federation as planning and lead consultant for the redevelopment of the brownfield PIRA site in Leatherhead town centre to provide 127 residential units and a new 7,500m² headquarters building for the Police Federation.

Broadway Malyan took the lead role in pre-application discussions with the local authority with particular emphasis on the justification for the loss of an allocated employment site, and the clients' requirement for planning permission to be granted quickly. We were responsible for assessing risk, determining planning strategy and producing and submitting the planning application. We also managed the project team to ensure that the proposals were delivered in accordance with the timetable and aspirations of the clients, a process that was made more difficult by the nature of this project, which included two individual client groups with often different objectives, and two separate sets of architects (including Broadway Malyan).

Following the submission of the detailed planning application Broadway Malyan was involved in the production of a Travel Plan for the site and in negotiating the associated Section 106 Agreement. Detailed planning permission for this major scheme was secured within 14 weeks and the development is currently close to completion.
