Mid Sussex District has been set high housing targets in the South East Plan and Burgess Hill is identified as a suitable location to accommodate growth.  The Northern Arc has the potential to provide a comprehensive mixed use new community as an urban extension to Burgess Hill.  Broadway Malyan identified the strategic planning benefits of bringing together a number of developers with land interests and facilitated this collaborative promotion. The approach has relied upon a strong spatial planning strategy articulated through a masterplan vision informed by the Council's own Community Plan objectives.  Very early engagement with the Town Council has resulted in local political support for the development culminating in the Town Council formally supporting the site for inclusion in the District Councils Local Development Framework. Ongoing and proactive dialogue is continuing with both the Town Council and the Local Planning Authority.
