Forum Barreiro forms the first phase of a comprehensive regeneration masterplan. This partly covered, partly open-air scheme has been developed on an urban brownfield site, and comprises a construction area of 29,000m² including a 17,500m² retail centre with food market and four-screen cinema, 9,000m² of residential space is provided above. Special attention was paid to issues of sustainability and waste management throughout the design. All of the wood used in the project has been certified as being from a sustainable forest, and every effort was made to make the development as energy efficient as possible.
The scheme opened fully-let in November 2008.
