This €53m retail and leisure development for Bouygues Imobiliaria forms part of the a masterplan to extend the city of Braga in Portugal. The design draws its inspiration from its location, adjacent to a disused quarry, by using large-scale planes of local stone, which are twisted and broken to represent the quarry faces, and set at different angles to replicate the differing strata and shifting plate formations in natural geology. Espaço Braga will feature a 15,000m² hypermarket at ground floor level, with fashion and sports retail stores at first floor and a spacious food court and leisure uses, including a six screen multiplex cinema at second floor level. Parking for 2,350 cars will be provided at basement and roof levels as the centre is built on a hillside.
