This residential scheme is situated on a highly visible site on one of the main access roads into Manchester city centre and provides 107 apartments arranged around a central atrium space. The building is split into five elements; two main accommodation blocks, a seven-storey tower block, a small end block addressing the street context and the atrium which acts as the building's main circulation. This fragmented massing creates voids between the blocks offering glimpses through the building into the atrium area and allowing light to penetrate into the internal courtyard area. The elevations use a mix of pre-fabricated Thermowood panels, red and blue brick, and balconies that project by varying amounts. Their detail and composition give an end result that is innovative, modern and sustainable and helps to strengthen the area's sense of place.
