Broadway Malyan was appointed to design a vibrant waterside community which would create a stunning gateway to New Islington, Manchester’s Millennium Community. The scheme provides for 541 apartments, a food store, retail and leisure units and secure car parking underneath a podium, which will create a private garden area. One of Manchester’s defining attributes is the red sandstone upon which many of its buildings are founded and out of which its canals were carved. Our scheme incorporates this, featuring a striking 21-storey landmark tower building in red sandstone and copper.

The splayed sandstone shards provide the majority of apartments in the tower with southerly views towards the canal basin while the other individual buildings respond to the canal side mill typology and street frontages, orientated to maximise views out over the canal. The development excels in ISIS’s in-house sustainability scoring system and has been designed to achieve an excellent EcoHomes rating.
