Broadway Malyan has been appointed to prepare a Regeneration Framework for Sutton Coldfield by Birmingham City Council. It is intended that the Regeneration Framework will be adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document within the City Local Development Framework following formal public consultation.

The purpose of the Regeneration Framework is to promote a vision for Sutton Coldfield that establishes the town's 'USP'. The vision is founded on promoting Sutton Coldfield as an attractive, thriving and sustainable place that has a diverse range of quality shops, better leisure and cultural facilities, alongside a more dynamic range of commercial and residential accommodation.
In addition it distinguishes Sutton Coldfield from other centres within the broader Birmingham City conurbation while promoting the wider regeneration interests of Birmingham supporting the city as a regional capital and international city.

The draft Regeneration Framework which was launched by Birmingham City Council in January 2009 for public consultation is predicated on linking together three character areas: the Town Centre, the Old Town and the Boulevard (the Birmingham Road corridor which requires rebranding with supporting environmental and economic programmes to support local businesses).
The character areas and indicative projects have been developed through an extensive baseline assessment of needs and opportunities supported by extensive local consultation with key resident and business stakeholders.

A phased implementation plan has been prepared which provides a pragmatic development strategy for the implementation of the Framework's core projects including a new environmental upgrade to the Birmingham Road corridor including a potential Business Improvement District.
