Eastside Park

Client:             Birmingham City Council
Location:        Birmingham, UK
Size:               3 hectares
Skills:              Masterplanning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture

Broadway Malyan, in collaboration with the artists Art 2 Architecture, was one of six practices shortlisted to take part in the final stage of the international design competition for the three hectare Eastside City Park and Birmingham's urban quarter. The £12 million park will be the first new park to be created in Birmingham for over a century and forms an important component of Birmingham's Eastside regeneration.

The new park and urban quarter respond to the changing uses and recent regeneration efforts in the city, including the Bull Ring. The challenge was to create a cohesive masterplan that could become the uniting factor between the new disparate elements. Broadway Malyan's multidisciplinary team of masterplanners, architects and landscape designers proposed innovative traffic solutions, spaces for office workers to use at lunchtime, an ecological strategy and a 24-hour central entertainment and media space that could be used for performances.
