Basingstoke is one of the largest towns in Hampshire having grown following planned expansion in the 1960's and 70's to accommodate London overspill. On the initial advice from Broadway Malyan, Taylor Wimpey secured an interest in this 500 hectare site which has the potential to accommodate 6,000 dwellings. Due to the strategic nature of the site the promotional strategy relied upon Basingstoke's housing requirement being increased through the South East Plan process.

Broadway Malyan successfully achieved this through its presentation of evidence to the Examination in Public. The site has been identified by the Local Planning Authority as having potential to accommodate 5,000 dwellings and active dialogue is taking place to ensure allocation in the Local Development Framework. Broadway Malyan's masterplanning team has developed a number of innovative design options that respect environmental, physical and political constraints.
The evolving concept comprises an urban extension to the town and a fully integrated, but separate linked village which respects the existing settlement pattern within and around the town. A key feature will be the provision of a major county park linking the development to the core of the town centre. The proximity of an adjacent energy from waste plant provides the potential for district heating for all residential and commercial components of the development.
