Broadway Malyan was appointed to design a new swimming pool facility and technology block at the Phoenix High School in Hammersmith, London. The Janet Adegoke Swimming Pool facility, which is used by both the school and the community, consists of a 25 metre pool and a learner pool, together with associated ancillary accommodation. The school technology block comprises five teaching spaces and associated support facilities. The layout of the facility is designed to ensure that the area of external envelope is reduced and also to minimise the building's footprint, thus making more area available to the school for recreational use. Brise-soleils help to prevent an early build up of heat within the pool hall and also prevent direct sunlight from causing a build-up of algae growth internally.
