Spa Gardens is a key public space in Bermondsey, South London. The brief from the London Borough of Southwark called for the rejuvenation of this neglected space to create an amenity appropriate to the needs of the local community.
The design concept is based on a 'city green'. This new form of environment, based on a traditional village green, acts both as a park and city square, linking the community and providing a range of opportunities for leisure and recreation. New routes and vistas connect with the surrounding urban grain and the layout offers a responsive playground for all age groups and sections of the local community. Structured play areas for younger children, sporting facilities and a Community Building are provided.
