Broadway Malyan designed this sample scheme design submission for a PFI 60-bed acute mental health unit incorporating 20 high dependency beds, a place of safety suite, a 10-bed PICU, crisis resolution centre and outreach support services within the SW Hants LIFT development. The building works with the sloping site, stepping down across the natural diagonal fall of the topography. The ground level contains the main entrance, front of house accommodation, adult wards and high dependency units arranged around a series of courtyards. The first floor houses a range of clinical and administration functions and also provides a double-height space over the entrance and reception areas. The lower ground floor contains the PICU and place of safety suite. The southern boundary takes the form of a curved screen which wraps itself in a soft and gentle series of curves. This is accentuated at various points along the screen by use of appropriate landscaping.
