Whitehaven Town Centre
background and brief
Broadway Malyan are working alongside Wayne Hemingway to develop framework proposals, an urban design strategy and individual development briefs to transform the fortunes of the historic coastal town of Whitehaven.
The work includes an historic appraisal of the town and the evaluation of the urban grain, leading to the identification of strategic development sites and detailed proposals to form a part of a robust development brief for each site.

design response
The proposals seek to enhance and revitalise the waterfront setting and to refine the existing pattern of land uses to focus on tourism, heritage and leisure opportunities. The project works at a strategic and site level, drawing out a 20 year framework for investment and development.
The process has included extensive public and stakeholder consultation, including the establishment of a 'Consultation Station' to provide a continuous point of information and feedback for the public throughout the process.
