Roundshaw Regeneration
background and brief
Following a successful SRB bid and two years of extensive consultation and participation with residents, Broadway Malyan developed a masterplan and detailed design for the total regeneration of the 1960’s ex-GLC Roundshaw Estate comprising about 2000 dwellings.
Roundshaw Regeneration
design response
The masterplan provided for the demolition of all high-rise and concrete system built deck access blocks. Phased development allowed all residents from demolished blocks to be re-housed in new two or three storey houses and blocks of flats ensuring disruption was kept to a minimum. Features include low speed streets and a variety of communal amenity spaces. All flats and houses have private enclosed gardens.
A £5m multi-use community building at the 'Heart of the Estate' has also been provided.
