Carpenters Estate Regeneration
background and brief
Broadway Malyan was commissioned by the London Borough of Newham in 2003 to prepare a masterplan and development funding strategy for the regeneration of the Carpenters Estate in East London. Working with the resident TMO Board, extensive consultation was carried out with local residents using a variety of consultation tools including working with a local film company to prepare a video diary of the masterplan process.
Carpenters Estate Regeneration
design response
The masterplan involves a programme of residential refurbishment and new build, including over 500 homes, improved public realm and a new community resource centre. It has been designed to maximise financial cross funding between new private sector residential development and the refurbishment of local authority stock. Ways in which other mainstream public sector funding can be matched with private sector capital investment to increase the overall budget for the regeneration of the estate, are being considered.
