Edinburgh City Centre Management (ECCM) commissioned Broadway Malyan as part of a design team to create a comprehensive development plan to regenerate Edinburgh's signature shopping street and the neighbouring network of associated streets in the New Town and Waverley Valley area.

ECCM has also appointed AM Development UK Ltd as strategic development partner to assist in achieving the shared vision of restoring Princes Street.

design response
The principle objective is to redevelop the existing area of sub-standard buildings, streets, open space and city intrastructure.

The design concept follows a 'string of pearls' analogy, where each pearl represents a development block of the New Town, between Princes Street and George Street. Each pearl generates its own retail character, comparative retail offer and sense of place.
