background and brief
The brief from the client, Sonae Sierra, was to transform an existing shopping mall in La Spezia into a vibrant new retail destination.
Broadway Malyan's multi-disciplinary team, combining architecture, urban design, interior design, graphics and branding, developed a brand new design concept for the scheme, which will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the town.

A thorough urban analysis of La Spezia was carried out, which included a detailed examination of the natural landscape and togography. Vibrantly coloured facades, stepped green terraces and the stratification of the local geology provided the primary design element, informing the elevational treatments and translating into the horizontal banding of the new brand.
