background and brief
The Domoteka centre, a 50,000 sq.m furniture, furnishings and retail centre, forms part of the 46ha Targówek Retail Park, which is being developed by Inter IKEA Centre Poland, the development arm of the furniture retailer IKEA.

design response
The centre has been planned around a central courtyard, with retail units built as small free-standing structures, designed to resemble houses. This village-type environment aims to break the stereotype of impersonal shopping centres, with a much more familiar, community-focused feel.
