Aidan Ridyard

BA (Hons) Dip Arch (Dist.) ARB RIBA

Board Director

Aidan joined Broadway Malyan in 2006, bringing with him an outstanding background in the design and delivery of high profile projects for clients as diverse as theatres, conference centres, Council offices, medical centres and churches, although his real passion is the design of spaces for learning, from schools to universities.

He has maintained a career long relationship with the City of Birmingham, and was instrumental in the establishment of our studio in the city centre. From this base, he leads our Education Team, with responsibility for Learning focused projects throughout the practice.

He has been instrumental in winning a number of prestigious design competitions, and has led the design teams for the projects at Bournville College and Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College in the UK, as well as the British Council School in Madrid and the British Community College in Abu Dhabi. As a student, Aidan’s work was short-listed for RIBA silver and bronze awards, and was widely exhibited.  He regularly lectures at Schools of Architecture and has written for various publications, notably the RIBA Journal.

His designs for Bournville College have been published in Education Spaces: Colleges and Universities (Braun 2010).

Aidan, along with his collaborator Dr Ben Schmidt, presented their initial research findings on Effective Learning Spaces in Higher Education at the Society for Research into Higher Education Annual Conference in Wales in December 2011. In February 2012, Aidan presented his final paper at the UK Learning Conference. In April 2012, Aidan gave a keynote speech at the Building Future Education (BFE) India.
