Asia Pacific Sports Academy, Kuala Lumpur
The Asia Pacific Sports College (APSC) is one of only a handful of sports oriented secondary schools in the world. Set in the sports cluster of the Sime Darby Vision Valley (SDVV) the building offers first class sports and educational facilities. A central pedestrian spine links the different buildings, which are integrated into a high quality landscape.
Facilities consist of an academic school, students hostels, field house, aquatic centre, auditorium, performance training centre, amphitheatre, administration building, golf academy including an 18 hole golf course, 4 football fields, 15 tennis courts and a 400m track.
Students at the college will be trained to excel in their respective field of sports with the aim of becoming world-class athletes while simultaneously studying under the IB Diploma program so that graduates are able to apply for universities around the world.
Sustainability was at the heart of the design. Building orientation was set to utilise natural light and wind, while shading devices are used to protect students from the intense summer sun. Green roof and rainwater harvesting are incorporated for reduction of energy and water consumption.
