Enfield Council has unveiled Broadway Malyan as one of four finalists in the contest to masterplan the huge 70ha Meridian Water development in north London
A mix of vacant plots, former gas works and industrial units, the waterside site close to the Lea Valley Regional Park will eventually house the 5,000 home ‘eco-community’, providing almost half the 11,000 homes the borough plans to build over the next 15 years.
Director of place-shaping and enterprise Sue Foster said: ‘This is very much a series of disconnected and tired [parcels of] land, which is seen as an ending to the residential communities around Edmonton. This contest is an opportunity for a new suburban exemplar, connecting into the surrounding areas, and creating an opportunity for new architectural forms. This needs to be a step change for Enfield in terms of quality.’
The finalists were all selected from the Homes and Communities Agency’s masterplanning procurement panel and a winner will be announced next month.
