Planning permission has been granted for the Bournville College scheme, which forms part of the £1bn regeneration of the former MG Rover works at Longbridge, Warwickshire.
Working with St Modwen and joint landowner Advantage West Midlands, the scheme involves relocating the existing three campuses of Bournville College into purpose-built 250,000 sq.ft. premises. The new £35 million campus addresses the complex issues of delivery of a Further Education building – supporting flexible learning models that need to quickly adapt to changing curricula; a varied curriculum including subjects as diverse as history to hairdressing; and different teaching methods such as conventional didactic teaching methods and more vocational training. The scheme has been designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating
Construction work will begin in summer 2009. Completion anticipated for the start of the academic year in 2011.
